Update June 16th

Thank you for your patience. We appreciate that with the continued uncertainty around the return of all children to school and the Covid 19 crisis that this a highly unusual set of circumstances for your children to be getting ready to start school for the first time.

Across the Lighthouse Schools Partnership headteachers and School Improvement staff have been working together to plan for September 2020 and have agreed the approach outlined below:

  • That no parents' evenings will be held until September.
  • That during the first week of term one all schools across the Trust will run the induction events which were cancelled from term 6.
  • That from the second week of term one all schools will deliver their own model of induction based upon their usual approach but changed where needed to reflect responses to Covid 19.

It is our intention to hold virtual meetings with you in July so that you get a chance to meet your child’s new teacher, ask questions to help you prepare for September. These will be run on Microsoft Teams and details will be sent out later in the term. Meetings will be held in the week beginning 6th of July and will be hosted by the class teachers.

We will also post the Induction PowerPoint slides we use to the school website on the page we have already set up for you.

School will need to take a flexible approach to planning the induction of your cohort, as much will be dependent on the guidance given to schools by the DFE in response to the Covid 19 crisis. If the current guidance remains in place then the Induction period may be longer than usual.  If schools are able to return to teaching in classes of up to 30 children then we will almost certainly stick to our usual 3 week induction  period with just the extra week to meet you all as outlined above.

What Next?

After a very busy period of getting ready for our children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 to return we are now focussed on your cohort. School leaders are in contact with nurseries and pre-school settings and are organising the class groups, also using the information you have shared.

Once this is completed we will be in contact again to share class groups, details of the virtual meetings and anything else that will help you get ready. We may not be able to share actual details of the Induction programme (including exact dates) until very late, depending on how the Covid 19 crisis develops but will keep you updated.

We hope that you are all safe and well and look forward to welcoming you to our school community. You are very much in our thoughts.

Your children may get a slightly different induction but you can be assured that at the heart of our decision-making will be the wellbeing of your children and the most up to date DFE guidance.

Stay safe and take care.

Best Wishes

Richard Riordan
